The Ultimate Drinking Trivia

Phone buzzers are temporarily off on the live site — hosting them means paying to keep a server running 24/7. You can still use them by running Liquid Logic locally on a computer (everyone joins over the same WiFi). On this website, use keyboard buzzers + moderated mode.

How to unlock buzzers →

Phone buzzers run on a tiny server on your computer — everyone joins over the same WiFi, no internet needed. It takes about 2 minutes the first time.

  1. Install Node.js 18+ (one-time) from nodejs.org — pick the “LTS” download.
  2. Download the game: go to github.com/CGovS/Liquid-Logic, click the green Code button → Download ZIP, then unzip it.
  3. Open Terminal (Mac) or Command Prompt (Windows) and run, one line at a time:
    cd path/to/Liquid-Logic/server
    npm install
    npm start
Tip: type cd  then drag the server folder into the window to fill the path.
  4. The window prints a HOST link and a QR code. Open the HOST link on your TV/laptop, flip on Live Phone Buzzers, and have players scan the QR (same WiFi) to buzz in from their phones.

Done playing? Close that window and the game goes back to keyboard buzzers. Full instructions are in the repo’s server/README.

About Liquid Logic — how it works, sips & phone buzzers

What is Liquid Logic?

Liquid Logic is a Jeopardy-style drinking trivia game with nearly 5,000 questions across 30 categories and seven themed boards. Teams buzz in, steal answers and hand out sips. It's for entertainment only, and it plays just as well without alcohol.

How to play

  1. Enter up to six team names, then pick a theme and a board.
  2. Teams take turns choosing a category and a point value from the board.
  3. The clue is read aloud. Once it finishes, buzz in — buzz too early and you're frozen for two seconds.
  4. Answer before the timer runs out: five seconds on a 200 clue, up to ten seconds on a 1000. A wrong answer or a timeout reopens the buzzers so another team can steal.
  5. The team with the most points when the board is cleared wins.

Scoring and sips

A correct answer earns the clue's points and lets your team hand out sips; a wrong answer loses points. Sips scale with the clue: 200 is one sip, 400 is two, 600 is three, 800 is four and 1000 is five. If nobody gets it, the whole table drinks the clue's value.

Moderated mode

Playing in person? A host can read the clues aloud and mark who got each one right, with no voice or buzzers needed.

Phone buzzers

On this website you buzz in with the keyboard. To turn everyone's phone into a buzzer, run Liquid Logic on a computer with the local buzzer server — players scan a QR code and buzz in over the same WiFi. Open "How to unlock buzzers" above for the steps.

Playing without alcohol

Liquid Logic is a trivia game first: swap sips for points or forfeits and it works for any game night, or as a trivia game on a road trip — passengers only.
